Law to ensure quality of textile products on the cards

Update : 11 Jun 2018, 12:40 AM

A bill titled “The Textile Act-2018” has been placed in parliament, aiming to maintain the quality of textile products as Bangladesh earns huge amounts of foreign currency from apparel products.

Placed by State Minister for Textiles and Jute Mirza Azam on Sunday, the bill was sent to the committee concerned for vetting.

The committee was asked to submit its report within 15 workdays.

As per the draft law, a directorate will be formed with a director general as its chief, who will be appointed by the government.

The director general will work as its registrar, while other officers will inspect quality and standard of various elements used in textile products, including paints and other chemicals.

About the provision of punishment, the proposed law states that the registration of any company can be suspended or cancelled for giving wrong or false information while getting registered.
