The family of the twins – Jakirul and Monirul – submitted a written complaint against religion teacher Kutub Uddin to Upzila Nirbahi Officer Nurul Hafiz seeking his intervention in the matter.
Classmates of the victims told the Dhaka Tribune that Kutub Uddin beat Monirul indiscriminately on Saturday, as he failed to name the grandfather of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
The teacher also beat Jakirul as he requested Kutub Uddin not to assault his brother so brutally, rendering the boys unconscious. The teacher even disregarded school Headmaster Abdul Mannan’s pleas to stop his assault.
The boys were taken to Damurhuda Upzila Health Complex after sustaining severe injuries. They are now undergoing treatment at the hospital.
The UNO formed a three-member committee to investigate the matter. The probe committee has been asked to submit its report within three working days.
Protesting the torture, hundreds of students and their guardians staged a demonstration in front of the school on Sunday morning and demanded removal of the teacher.
Kutub Uddin, the accused teacher refused to talk about the incident. Instead, he referred the corespondent to talk to the headmaster.
Headmaster Abdul Mannan said he had informed the school committee about the matter and also asked them to take actions against the teacher.
UNO Nurul Hafiz assured the Dhaka Tribune of actions to be taken against the teacher if he proven guilty.
