Suspected New JMB man killed in Kushtia ‘gunfight’

A suspected member of a new faction of banned militant outfit Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (New JMB) has been killed in a “gunfight” with police in Daulatpur upazila of Kushtia district. The deceased is Arman Ali, 42, son of Asan Ali of Thakur Daulatpur village. Daulatpur police station Office-in-Charge (OC) Shah Dara Khan said: “Acting on a tip-off we conducted a drive in Bolia ground area around 3am on Friday. “Sensing our presence, we the militants opened fire at us.” In retaliation, police fired back that left Arman injured while the others managed to flee the scene. Meanwhile, three policemen were injured in the incident. The OC said Arman was declared dead when taken to Daulatpur Hospital. He said the deceased militant was an accused in several cases including arms and explosion. Police recovered a pistol, two rounds of bullets, one magazine and three machetes from the spot.
