He has been visiting the sites of the town's latest development projects, and working alongside other workers. While Obaidul was in disguise, no one could tell who he really was – not even the contractors he was keeping an eye on.

Dhaka TribuneMayor Obaidul told the Dhaka Tribune: "We have started working on UGP-3 projects from July 25. We have been working on road construction, drainage system, street lamps and other developments. I chose to be in disguise to nab corrupt contractors, and to witness the suffering of the common people with my own eyes."
He added: "Many contractors misappropriate funds when we work on development projects. And the ones who actually work, their performance end up being very disappointing. Within a few days of completing such projects, we hear complaints of damages and eventually, start repair work. That is why I have taken to the streets on my own to end corruption."
