On the contrary, the family members of Anisur Rahman, 38, president of Shayamkur ward 5 unit Sramik Dal, claimed that police picked him from Lauri area in the upazila on Sunday dawn and since then he remained traceless.
Sources at the district hospital said Manirampur police station SI Kawser got admitted Anisur to the hospital around 1:45am Wednesday where he died of his injuries after twenty minutes.
BNP Central Committee Assistant Organising Secretary Anindya Islam confirmed his political identity, telling that Anisur's family members are actively involved in BNP politics.
The victim's brother Azizur Rahman said: “Anisur has construction materials business in Manirampur bazar. Police detained him early Sunday and they later informed us that he was sent to Jessore DB police.
“Police demanded Tk10 lakh to buy my brother's release, but we have denied to pay the amount. In the morning, we have found the corpse in Jessore General Hospital morgue.”
Manirampur police station OC Biplob Kumar Nath said: “We have rushed to Begaritala area being noticed that two groups, one led by Mizan-Mahfuz and another by Anisur, started trading gunshots to establish supremacy there. We have discovered Anisur in the pool of blood and got admitted to the hospital.
“Anisur was accused in 12 cases including local Krishak League leader Shafi Kamal and Jubo League activist Shahin murders. Police have recovered one firearms and two rounds of bullets from the spot.”
