On Wednesday night around 11pm, student residents of the Thakurgaon Government Women's College Hostel were preparing to go to sleep.
As the girls tucked in for the night, they heard a bone-chilling crack followed by a loud crash.
The students ran out screaming, terrified by the possibility of countless disasters that could have struck the hostel.
Among the students, 20 of them fainted outright.
After the clamour died down, the hostel authorities found that it was a cornice which had collapsed from the second storey of the two-storey building.
The unconscious students were rushed to Thakurgaon Modern Sadar Hospital, as confirmed by Civil Surgeon ABM khaoirul Kabir.
He said none of the unconscious students were injured, they merely passed out due to incredible fear,
Hostel Superintendent Asaduzzaman said the cornice had weakened and collapsed because of heavy rainfall on Wednesday.
