Update : 26 Sep 2016, 09:53 PM

The Chittagong city chapter came up with the declaration after holding a press conference at a city restaurant yesterday.

Of the dissolved 39 committees, council preparation committees have been formed in 31 wards and the rest eight committees will be declared within this month.

Two ward committees of the city BNP – Kattali and Uttar Pahartali – have been exempted as the tenure is yet to be expired.

The convening committees have been directed to hold councils in their respective wards within three months.

While addressing the press conference, Dr Shahadat Hossain, president of Chittagong city BNP, said they dissolved the date-expired committees for revitalising the organisation and electing leadership at grassroots in a democratic manner.

We are going to embark upon a campaign to collect members from October 1 of this year,” said Dr Shahadat, adding that they would execute ‘one man-one post policy’ in the organisation.

Committees will be comprised of 31 members in small wards and 51 members in large wards of the city,” added Dr Shahadat.

Abul Hashem Bakkar, general secretary of Chittagong city BNP, in his speech said they had decided to overhaul the organisation with an aim to wage a concerted movement.

The Bangladesh Nationalist Party’s Chittagong city chapter was reconstituted on August 6.

In the reconstituted 3-member committee, Dr Shahadat Hossain and Abul Hashem Bakkar were made president and secretary respectably while Abu Sufian was made vice-president.

Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury who was the president in the previous Chittagong city chapter got a berth in the party standing committee member.

Dr Shahadat Hossain was the general secretary of the previous BNP committee of Chittagong city chapter while Abul Hashem Bakkar was president of Chittagong city Jubo Dal.
