A goat, distributed among the landless flood victims of Dumuria upazila in Khulna under the FCDI project, died just hours after it had been handed over to a family on Saturday.
Locals alleged that many more goats are also sick and frail.
Domestic livestock such as goats, hens and ducks are being distributed among flood victims in Dumuria, Batiaghata, Dighalia and Rupsa upazilas of Khulna under the Flood Control Drainage and Irrigation (FCDI) project of the Department of Livestock in the district. State Minister of Fisheries and Livestock Narayan Chandra Chanda was also present at the location on Saturday.
Zulfikar Ali Dhali, a resident of Dumuria upazila, said: “The goat I received under this project was so weak and stunted that it died hours after I brought it home.”
When asked, District Livestock Officer Md Anwarul Islam said the farmer whose goat died would be compensated with another goat from a different project.
State Minister Narayan Chandra said: “Action will be taken against those responsible if any animal distributed under the FCDI project dies.”
