The 22-year-old was a third year student at the English department in Stamford University, a source in his family told the Dhaka Tribune.
He was the only child of his parents. His father, Anisul Haque, is an officer at Janata Bank in Faridpur, the source added.
According to family and local fire service sources, Sakib went to the river to bathe the bull he purchased for his family for Eid-ul-Azha on Thursday afternoon. Afterwards, when he went to take a bath in the river, he drowned.
On information, divers from the local fire service unit went to the spot and rescued him.
They rushed him to Faridpur General Hospital, where the doctors on duty pronounced him dead.
