Import-export operations have resumed at Benapole land port following an eight-day suspension for the Sharadiya Durga Puja festival.
Passenger movement between Bangladesh and India remained unaffected during the closure, with travellers carrying valid passports continuing to cross the border.
Trade operations resumed at 9am on Saturday. Between 9am and 10am, 35 cargo trucks entered Bangladesh from India, while 11 trucks left Bangladesh for India.
The port typically handles more than 500 truckloads of imports from India and around 200 truckloads of exports to India daily.
Badruzzaman Boni, general secretary of the Benapole C&F Staff Association, said import-export activities had remained suspended for eight days due to public holidays for Durga Puja. Operations resumed on Saturday following the end of the holidays.
Ruhul Amin, acting director of Benapole Port, also confirmed that trade had been suspended during the festival, one of the major religious celebrations of the Hindu community. He said import-export activities had now resumed at the land port.
