A teacher and an office assistant of Matlabganj Pilot Girls' High School in Matlab South upazila have been relieved of their duties following allegations of making derogatory and objectionable comments about President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Facebook.
The two are Assistant Teacher (Bangla) Jewel Talukdar and Office Assistant Md Suman.
School managing committee President and Matlab South Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) KM Ishmam relieved them of their respective duties on Thursday afternoon.
The UNO also said a three-member committee has been formed to investigate the allegations.
According to the school and the UNO office, Jewel posted several comments on his personal Facebook account in recent months, including posts featuring edited images of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and critical and allegedly offensive remarks.
He also posted images of President Mirza Fakhrul, along with comments critical of the government, the sources said.
Suman was relieved of his duties for allegedly commenting on Jewel's Facebook posts.
UNO Ishmam said the probe committee has been asked to submit its report within two working days, after which departmental action will be taken based on its findings.
Jewel admitted making the posts and said, “I made a mistake. I later deleted them.”
Head teacher Kazi Md Shah Alam said the school authorities are also investigating the allegations.
