Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Afroza Khanam on Sunday said the government is working to eliminate syndicates from the aviation sector while ensuring fair airfares for expatriate Bangladeshis.
"With the cooperation of all of you, I hope we will be able to eliminate all syndicates in the aviation sector," she said while speaking at a discussion held at the conference room of Deputy Commissioner's Office in Manikganj, marking National Fisheries Fortnight 2026, according to a press release.
Afroza said the government has made significant progress in implementing its election manifesto during its first six months in office, including initiatives to develop Bangladesh into a regional aviation hub.
The minister said initiatives are being taken to offer special incentives on airfares and accommodation at hotels and motels under Bangladesh Parjatan Corporation in honour of July fighters.
Earlier, Afroza inaugurated a colorful rally marking National Fisheries Fortnight 2026 under the theme "Self-Reliant Nation with Silver Fish, Bangladesh First".
Addressing the discussion as the chief guest, she said the government is working to move the country forward under its "Bangladesh First" principle. She urged officials to play a more proactive role in implementing the government's election manifesto.
The minister said Department of Fisheries is working relentlessly to conserve the country's fisheries resources and ensure sustainable production, while the government remains ready to provide necessary technical assistance to fish farmers.
She stressed the need for expanding fish farming at the grassroots level, saying indigenous fish play an important role in meeting the nutritional and protein needs of the people. Popularizing fish farming across the country could also contribute to poverty alleviation and strengthening the national economy, she added.
