Police recovered a bomb wrapped in a pressure cooker with scotch tape from a field in Savar’s Sadhapur area early Wednesday and later it was safely defused by the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) bomb disposal unit.
Police and locals said the suspicious object was found inside a blue plastic drum at Ghora Mosque field around 1:30am.
The drum also contained some cloths and a copy of the Quran.
Savar Model Police Station Sub-Inspector Imran Hossain said they initially suspected that the object could be a bomb.
Locals removed the pressure cooker from the drum, placed it in the field and informed police.
Some residents said three unidentified people left the drum at the mosque field at night.
No one has been arrested in this connection yet.
A bomb disposal unit of DMP was informed and its members worked for about four hours before safely defusing the bomb in the afternoon, said the SI.
Earlier on July 30, police recovered another bomb concealed in a pressure cooker from an abandoned bag in front of Joyee General Store in Khejurbagan area of Ashulia.
The bomb disposal unit later defused it through a controlled explosion at a safe location.
Meanwhile, police on Tuesday night detained a youth named Arif Hossain with five crude bombs during a raid in Shyampur area of Hemayetpur in Savar.
On information provided by Arif, the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit later raided the ground floor of a four-storey building owned by Abdul Jalil and recovered nine more bomb-like objects, several leaflets and a large quantity of bomb-making materials and equipment.
Building owner Abdul Jalil and his daughter Ilma told journalists that a man identifying himself as Abbas Ali rented the apartment on Aug 2.
Savar Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Saiful Alam said a total of 14 bombs were recovered from Shyampur area.
