Agriculture and Fisheries and Livestock Minister Mohammad Amin-ur-Rashid on Tuesday said the country has sufficient fertilizer stocks and is facing no supply shortage, dismissing concerns over availability ahead of the cultivation season.
Speaking during a visit to the Bangladesh Rice Research Institute (BRRI) in Gazipur, he said that a vested group was attempting to create an artificial fertilizer crisis. The government remains vigilant and has taken necessary measures to ensure an uninterrupted supply of fertilizer to farmers across the country, he added.
"The country has no shortage of fertilizer. Adequate stocks are available, and the government is committed to ensuring farmers receive a continuous supply," he said.
The minister said the government aims to transform Bangladesh into a major exporter of agricultural products through a long-term strategy focused on expanding overseas markets.
He also stressed the importance of research and technology-driven farming to boost agricultural productivity, ensure food safety, and strengthen the global competitiveness of agricultural products. He called on research institutions to accelerate the transfer of new technologies and innovations to farmers to improve production at the field level.
Following the inspection, he attended a meeting with representatives of various agricultural institutions to discuss ongoing activities and future initiatives.
The event was attended by Gazipur-2 lawmaker M Manjurul Karim Rony, Agriculture Secretary Dr. Rafiqul Islam, agricultural scientists, academics, and officials from the Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI).
