State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Anindya Islam Amit has issued a strong warning against drug-related crimes, saying that even members of his own party will not be spared if found involved in narcotics.
Speaking at an event after inaugurating the 11.37-kilometre road in Sadar upazila of Jessore on Saturday, the state minister said, “No matter how influential a drug dealer may be, there is no place for them in society. If a drug trafficker happens to be my relative or a member of my own party, there will be no compromise.”
For the sake of the party’s image, he said, it does not matter how senior a leader someone is. Anyone who engages in wrongdoing has no connection with Tarique Rahman’s BNP, and there will be no place for such individuals in the party in the future, he added.
Amit said the government was implementing its election pledges, including the development of rural infrastructure. “As part of that commitment, construction of rural roads, bridges and culverts has begun. “Local residents should ensure that contractors deliver quality work. Whether a contractor is my relative or affiliated with the party is not your concern. You have every right to demand proper work from them. At the same time, no one should seek any unfair or unethical advantage from the contractors,” he said.
After the inauguration, the state minister planted saplings along the roadside and later inspected the ongoing re-excavation work of a series of canals in Haibatpur Union.
Earlier in the day, the state minister inaugurated a programme to plant 100,000 trees organised by the Jessore Education Board at Jessore Zila School as part of the Prime Minister’s nationwide campaign to plant 250 million trees. He distributed saplings among students and later laid the foundation stone of a 10-storey academic building at the school.
