Land Minister Mizanur Rahman Minu on Saturday urged students to embrace the rich history and heritage of the ancient Barind civilization and grow up as responsible and worthy citizens of the country.

Addressing the Farewell Reception-2026 for HSC examinees at Rajshahi Barendra College as the chief guest, he said students should utilize the knowledge and education acquired from educational institutions to develop themselves through their own efforts and contribute to nation-building.

He expressed optimism that Barendra College would further strengthen its position as one of the leading centres of education and culture in the region in the coming years.

Highlighting the historical significance of the Barind region, the minister said Barind is one of the oldest inhabited areas of Bangladesh, with a civilization dating back nearly 3,000 to 4,000 years.

"The culture, language and educational traditions of this region have enlightened people since ancient times," he said.

Recalling the sacrifices made by the people of Rajshahi, Minu said the soil of the region is sanctified by the blood of Dr Shamsuzzoha, the martyr of the 1969 Mass Uprising, and Birshreshtho Mohiuddin Jahangir, a valiant hero of the 1971 Liberation War.

He called upon teachers to educate students about the glorious history and heritage of the region in greater detail.

Offering guidance to the examinees, the minister said every student should set a clear goal in life and strive to achieve it through dedication and hard work.

He encouraged them to serve society and humanity not only through politics but also by becoming skilled professionals such as engineers, doctors, scientists and lawyers.

The minister also advised students to respect their teachers and follow their guidance in shaping their future careers and lives.

Referring to the institution's prospects, Minu said Barendra College is well-positioned for nationalisation and assured that efforts would continue to help the college produce world-class and talented graduates in the future.
