Members of RAB-6’s Special Company arrested an alleged supplier of weapons and food to pirate groups operating in the Sundarbans and recovered three locally made firearms during a raid in Bagerhat.
According to RAB-6 Commanding Officer Lieutenant Colonel Nistar Ahmed, an operational team conducted a raid at South Para in Srifaltala under Rampal Police Station at around 3:00pm on Thursday. During the operation, officers arrested Sabur Sheikh (51) and recovered three locally manufactured one-shot pipe guns wrapped in black plastic from his possession.
A case under the Arms Act has been filed against the suspect at Rampal Police Station, and he has been handed over to local police along with the recovered firearms.
RAB said that during preliminary questioning, Sheikh admitted to supplying weapons and food to the Choto Jahangir pirate group, which authorities describe as one of the pirate gangs active in the Sundarbans. Officials also said records show two previous cases against him at Mongla Police Station in Bagerhat.
