Ninety-one Bangladeshi fishermen who had been detained in India were repatriated and reunited with their families following coordinated efforts between the Bangladesh Coast Guard and the Indian Coast Guard.

Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Suzan, Media Officer of the Bangladesh Coast Guard, confirmed the development on Monday.

Indian Coast Guard arrested the fishermen on allegations of illegally fishing in Indian waters near the Bangladesh-India maritime boundary. The detentions took place between December 16 last year and February 16 this year. Four Bangladeshi fishing vessels were also seized during the operations.

The Bangladesh Coast Guard received the 91 fishermen and their four fishing boats from the Indian Coast Guard at the International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL) on Sunday.

The fishermen were formally handed over to their families, along with their vessels, at the Bangladesh Coast Guard Base in Mongla yesterday.
