A devastating fire reduced a farmer’s house to ashes in Kotalipara upazila of Gopalganj on Thursday night, leaving the family homeless and causing an estimated loss of Tk 6 lakh.
The victim, Kabul Daria, son of Sakat Daria of Majhbari village, said he was at a hospital with his ailing wife when the fire broke out. “I received the news while at the hospital and rushed home, only to find everything burned to ashes,” Kabul said.
According to the farmer, stored paddy, rice, furniture, cash money, and other household belongings were completely destroyed in the blaze. Local residents and the victim could not immediately determine the cause of the fire.
Sirajul Islam, officer-in-charge of Kotalipara Fire Service Station, said firefighters rushed to the scene after receiving the information and managed to control the blaze, though the house had already been extensively damaged.
Fire officials said an investigation is underway to determine the origin of the fire.
