Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman has said that there is no alternative to training for improving the professional skills of lawyers, adding that training programs will soon be introduced in all district bar associations across the country with the support of a British institution.
“To build competent judges, we must first produce competent and skilled lawyers,” he said.
The minister made the remarks while speaking as the chief guest at a reception and induction ceremony for newly enrolled lawyers held Friday morning at the Khulna District Bar Association auditorium.
Addressing the new lawyers, he said the establishment of an influence-free judiciary would ensure justice in the country. He added that, to further strengthen democracy, the rule of law, and human rights in Bangladesh, the judiciary must be transformed into an institution of high dignity, comparable to a place of reverence.
For that to happen, he said, lawyers must further enhance their honesty, dedication, and professional competence, while staying away from all forms of unethical practices.
Special guests at the event included Nazrul Islam Manju, administrator of Khulna City Corporation; Members of Parliament Amir Ejaz Khan and Jahangir Hossain Helal; Senior District and Sessions Judge Chand Mohammad Abdul Alim Al Razi; and District Administrator Hure Jannat.
The event was chaired by Molla Mohammad Masum Rashid, president of the Khulna District Bar Association, and moderated by its general secretary Molla Moshiur Rahman Nannu.
Earlier in the day, the minister also attended a courtesy meeting with judicial officials at the conference room of the Khulna District Judge Court, where he spoke as the chief guest.
