The Department of National Consumer Rights Protection has fined a filling station owner Tk 50,000 in Tangail for under-metering fuel.
The drive was conducted on Tuesday afternoon at M Arfan Khan & Co. filling station in the Amin Bazar area of Tangail town. It was led by Asaduzzaman Rumel, assistant director of the department.
Officials said the station had been under surveillance following multiple complaints from consumers. During the inspection, it was found that customers were receiving nearly 330 milliliters less fuel for every five liters of diesel and petrol.
Assistant Director Rumel said the fine was imposed after verifying the complaint. He added that such drives will continue to protect consumer rights and prevent malpractice.
Authorities have urged the public to report any irregularities in fuel measurement.
