Intern doctors at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) observed a 24-hour work stoppage and formed a human chain on Tuesday, protesting recent attacks and harassment of medical staff.

The program, organized by Intern Doctors’ Society, took place outside the administrative building from 9:30 am to 11:00 am, with dozens of interns joining.

Doctors said two male interns were injured in attacks by a patient’s relatives in Ward 13 on April 19. In a separate incident on April 20, a female intern was harassed and faced intimidation by a group in Ward 36.

“We cannot ensure proper treatment if our own safety is not guaranteed,” intern representative Dr. Tanvir Ahmed Toukir said at the program, calling for those responsible to be identified and brought to justice.

Other representatives, including Dr. Mohammad Nasrullah Sheikh and Dr. Abira Sultana, warned of tougher action if their demands were not met.

Hospital officials said routine services were partially disrupted by the strike, though emergency and outpatient departments remained open.
