Shopkeeper stabbed to death in Rajshahi

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Puthia Police Station Faridul Islam said that the body has been recovered and sent to the Rajshahi Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy

A shopkeeper was stabbed to death over non-payment of extortion money in Puthia upazila of Rajshahi. The incident took place around 6:30 am on Friday at Council Bazar.

The deceased has been identified as Mamunur Rashid Jewel (48). He hailed from Krishnapur village of the upazila. 

According to police, Jewel opened his shop in the morning and was sitting inside. At that time, the accused, Mainul, went to the shop and demanded extortion money to get drunk. When Jewel did not want to pay the money, they argued. 

At that time, Mainul hit Jewel in the chest with a knife he had. When Jewel fell down, the people around him rescued him and quickly took him to the Upazila Health Complex where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.

After the incident, the locals chased and caught Mainul. Later, the police went and arrested him and took him to the police station.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Puthia Police Station Faridul Islam said that the body has been recovered and sent to the Rajshahi Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy. The accused youth has been kept in police custody.
