Prime Minister Tarique Rahman told farmers that he would visit them to taste the fruits of the trees they plant.
Speaking while distributing Farmer Cards and saplings, he said, “We are giving you plant saplings. Some have received jamun trees, others mango trees. I have told them to plant these in front of their homes. And those who have received mango and jamun trees—I told them, ‘When the fruits ripen, I will come to eat—do invite me.’”
He made the remarks on Tuesday afternoon at the Shaheed Maruf Stadium in Tangail, where he attended the event as chief guest to distribute Farmer Cards and saplings.
Presided over by Fisheries, Livestock and Agriculture Minister Mohammad Aminur Rashid, the event was also addressed by State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Sultan Salauddin Tuku and the Prime Minister’s Adviser Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.
Agriculture Secretary Rafiqul I Mohammad delivered the welcome speech. A farmer and a woman farmer also spoke on the occasion.
During the programme, the Prime Minister personally handed over Farmer Cards to 15 farmers and distributed saplings.
Officials from different ministries, senior administrative officers, members of parliament, farmers and people from various professions were present.
Later, the Prime Minister inaugurated an agricultural fair organized at the municipal park in the town and visited different stalls.
