Two held with counterfeit currency, heroin  

Both accused have been sent to court after cases were filed against them under the Special Powers Act and the Narcotics Control Act

Detectives of the Dhaka District North Detective Branch (DB) arrested two men in separate raids in Ashulia and Dhamrai and seized counterfeit currency and heroin from their possession.

The arrests were confirmed by DB (North) Officer-in-Charge Saidul Islam in a message on Saturday.

Police said Md Monirul Islam (46), a resident of Gopalpur under Nalchity Police Station in Jhalokathi, was arrested from Nayarhat in Ashulia. He is accused of involvement in black market activities and counterfeit currency trading. Police recovered fake notes worth Tk 1 lakh from his possession.

In a separate raid in Rupnagar under Dhamrai Police Station, detectives arrested Md Swapan (48), described by police as a professional drug dealer. A total of 30 grams of heroin was seized from him, with an estimated market value of Tk 3 lakh.

Police said Monirul has five cases filed against him, while Swapan faces nine cases, mostly related to narcotics.
