Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kazi Shahidul Islam has announced a tough stance against artificial fuel shortage and illegal hoarding.
“Illegal fuel hoarding would not be allowed under any circumstances. Those involved in hoarding fuel would face fines and legal action,” he said while talking to journalists after inaugurating a cleanliness drive at the Katakhali municipal market in Paba upazila on Saturday.
Drives against fuel market irregularities are continuing across the district, the DC said, adding that strict instructions have been issued for conducting operations from union level to upazilas by UNOs, Assistant Commissioners (Land), and Executive Magistrates.
He further said that amid the global crisis, the government is trying to manage the situation by providing billions in subsidies. Anyone attempting to create artificial shortages, engage in corruption, or hoard goods would be identified and brought to justice, he warned.
Among those present were Deputy Director of Local Government Division Zakiul Islam, Additional Deputy Commissioners Md Sabur Ali and Mohinul Hasan, and Paba Upazila Acting UNO Mohammad Mehedi Hasan.
