A newly built modern tax building was inaugurated in Khulna by Whip of National Parliament and MP for Khulna-3 Rokibul Islam Bokul at a function held on Thursday.

Speaking as the chief guest, Bokul highlighted the vital role of taxpayers in national development and urged tax officials to adopt a more people-friendly approach. He stressed that fear and harassment surrounding TIN registration must be eliminated to expand the tax base.

He noted that infrastructure and public services are largely funded by tax revenue, calling for simpler and more transparent tax procedures alongside stricter measures against evasion.

Bokul also criticized disparities in tax enforcement, alleging that big businessmen often evade taxes while small and medium businessmen face undue pressure. He emphasized that tax officials must act as “friends of the people, not a source of fear.”

The event was chaired by Abdur Rahman Khan, Secretary of the Internal Resources Division and Chairman of the National Board of Revenue. He concluded by reaffirming the government’s commitment to building a fair, transparent, and efficient tax system to support economic growth.

Special guests included Nazrul Islam Manju, Administrator of Khulna City Corporation, S. M. Monirul Hasan Bappi, Administrator of the District Council, Barrister Mutasim Billah Faruqi, Member (Tax Policy) of the National Board of Revenue, and Ahsan Habib, Member (Tax Administration and Human Resource Management).

Khulna Tax Commissioner Shraboni Chakma delivered the welcome speech at the event.
