The Bangladesh Coast Guard has dismantled a hideout of the notorious ‘Chhoto Suman’ pirate gang in the Sundarbans and seized equipment used in criminal activities.

Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujon, Coast Guard media officer, said the drive was conducted on Monday morning based on intelligence reports that members of the gang were near Shimanta Khal under Mongla Police Station in Bagerhat.

A joint team from Coast Guard Base Mongla and Station Harbaria launched the operation around 6:00am. During the raid, they identified and destroyed a hideout used by the gang.

Law enforcers recovered a walkie-talkie and daily essentials, including cooking supplies, believed to have been used by the pirates.

However, the gang members managed to flee into the deep forest after sensing the presence of the Coast Guard, and no arrests were made.

Legal action regarding the seized items is underway.

The Coast Guard said operations will continue to ensure the Sundarbans remain free of piracy.
