A 25-year-old man died and his father was injured after being struck by lightning in Companiganj upazila of Noakhali.
The incident occurred around 1:20am on Thursday in the Musapur Closure area.
The deceased, Thakur Chan, was the son of Janardan, 45, of the fishermen’s area in Musapur Union.
According to locals, the father and son had gone to check whether their fishing boat, tied along the riverbank, was safe amid strong winds and rain when they were struck by lightning. Thakur Chan died on the spot.
In a separate incident, another man, Rabiul Hossain, was injured while guarding his watermelon field due to the sound and flash of lightning.
Locals rescued the injured and took them to the Companiganj Upazila Health Complex.
Emergency Medical Officer Dr Abdul Karim said: “After the lightning strike, the father and son were brought to the hospital. We found the son dead. His father has been admitted and is currently out of danger.”
