Fuel lifting resumed in Khulna on Sunday after depots assured a slight increase in its supply. Fuel loading began at the depots of Padma Oil Company Ltd and Meghna Petroleum Ltd, while discussions were underway regarding supply from Jamuna Oil Company Ltd. Each tanker is currently receiving about 9,000 litres of fuel.
Ashraful Islam Hira, a worker of a tank lorry collecting fuel for MM Filling Station in Kashiani upazila of Gopalganj, said he received 9,000 litres of fuel. “The supply has increased slightly, but it will still be difficult to meet the demand,” he said.
Habibur Rahman, manager of Meghna Petroleum Ltd depot, said fuel loading began at 11:30 am, but it is not possible to meet the full demand. “Each tanker is being supplied with around 9,000 litres of fuel in three instalments of 3,000 litres,” he added.
Sultan Mahmud Pintu, general secretary of Khulna Divisional Tank Lorry Owners Association, said that following discussions, the depots agreed to slightly increase fuel supply. As a result, fuel loading from Padma Oil Company Ltd and Meghna Petroleum Ltd depots resumed at 11:30 am.
He said a decision on supply from Jamuna Oil Company Ltd depot is expected after further discussions. “Fuel supply to filling stations should return to normal within the next two to four hours,” he added.
Fuel lifting had remained suspended since Saturday due to inadequate supply to meet the demand. The suspension continued till yesterday morning before operations resumed later in the day.
