A Bangladeshi expatriate from Tangail was killed in a missile attack on a residential building in Saudi Arabia. The deceased was identified as Mosharraf Hossain (38), a resident of Kirtonkhola Madhyapara village under Gajaria Union in Sakhipur upazila of Tangail. Mourning has descended on his family home following the incident.

The attack took place around 9:00 pm Bangladesh time on Sunday at a residential building inside a compound in Al-Kharj Governorate of Saudi Arabia. The Saudi Civil Defence Agency confirmed the information through a post on social media platform X.

According to family members and local sources, Mosharraf Hossain went to Saudi Arabia around eight years ago in search of work. He last returned to Bangladesh two years ago.

About half an hour before his death, he had a video call with his elder son Mahim.

Mosharraf’s elder son Mahim (14) is a ninth-grade student at a local high school, while his younger son Mihan (7) is a first-grade madrasa student.

Mahim said he spoke with his father on a video call around 8:30 pm on Sunday night. During the conversation, his father told him to buy clothes for Eid and assured him he would send money after iftar. However, at the time of iftar, Mosharraf was killed in the missile attack.

Mosharraf’s wife Kobori Akter broke down in tears while speaking. “I last spoke with him around 7:00 pm last night. How will I raise these two children now? Who will look after us?” she said.

Visiting the family home in Kirtonkhola village on Monday revealed crowds of relatives and neighbours gathering there. Many women were present. Mosharraf’s mother, his only sister Morsheda, and his wife Kobori Akter were seen crying inconsolably while neighbours tried to console them.

Mosharraf’s father Sujat Ali said, “I will never see my son again. At least I want his body to be brought back to the country so I can see him one last time. I request the government to bring his body back quickly.”

Meanwhile, Sakhipur Upazila Nirbahi Officer Abdullah Al Rony visited Mosharraf’s home at around 10:30 am on Monday and expressed sympathy to the bereaved family.

The UNO said they are maintaining constant communication with the relevant authorities. Necessary steps will be taken to bring the body back to Bangladesh as soon as possible. The government will also provide all kinds of assistance to the affected family.
