The eight-year-old girl who was found with her throat slit after being stabbed in a remote hilly area of Sitakunda, Chittagong, has passed away.

She died while undergoing treatment at Chittagong Medical College Hospital around 3:30am on Tuesday.

The child's uncle, Aziz, confirmed the information on Tuesday morning.

He said that despite many attempts, they could not save the girl.

He added that the child was sexually assaulted and attacked by an unidentified miscreant. Despite her injuries, she managed to reach a nearby road where an excavator operator was working and sought help.

The uncle said the child’s parents are in severe shock after hearing the news. The body has been kept at the hospital morgue. Burial will take place after completion of the legal process and post-mortem examination.

Earlier on Sunday morning, the child was rescued from the side of a hill road, at least 500 meters north of the Sahasradhara waterfall inside the Botanical Garden and Ecopark in Sitakunda.

The child was first admitted to the Sitakunda Upazila Health Complex and later to the Medical College Hospital in Chittagong.

The child underwent surgery on his throat at Chittagong Medical College Hospital that night. The child was taken to the One-Stop Crisis Cell (OCC) on Monday.

Sitakunda police station Officer-in-Charge Md Mohinul Islam said the child's mother filed a case of kidnapping and attempt to murder against an unidentified accused on Sunday. The case will now be converted into a murder case.
