A preparatory meeting was held on Wednesday in Rajshahi to ensure successful observance of National Voters' Day-2026, scheduled for March 2, with due dignity and a festive atmosphere.
The meeting of the Divisional Coordination Committee took place at the Divisional Commissioner’s Office conference room under the initiative of the Bangladesh Election Commission. It was chaired by Divisional Commissioner and Committee President Dr ANM Bazlur Rashid.
This year’s observance will be marked under the theme ‘Voters' Power, Democracy's Liberation.’ The meeting discussed organizing a range of programmes across the division, including rallies, discussion meetings, decorative illumination, public awareness campaigns, and motivational activities for new voters.
Special emphasis was placed on encouraging young citizens to register as voters and ensuring the updating of voter information.
In his remarks, the Divisional Commissioner highlighted that citizens’ participation as voters forms the foundation of democratic governance. He stated that National Voters’ Day is not merely a formality, but a significant initiative to raise awareness about voters’ rights and responsibilities. He instructed district and upazila administrations to implement the programmes in a coordinated manner.
The meeting was conducted by Regional Election Officer and Member Secretary Anisur Rahman. Among others present were Additional Divisional Commissioner Mohammad Habibur Rahman, Additional DIG of Rajshahi Range Office Khandakar Shamim Hossain, Deputy Commissioner Afia Akhter, Zila Parishad CEO Umme Fatima, Rajshahi College Principal Professor Ibrahim Ali, RUET Professor Dr Md Niamul Bari, and Deputy Principal Information Officer Md Touhiduzzaman.
The committee expressed optimism that coordinated efforts across the division would ensure the successful celebration of National Voters’ Day-2026 and further strengthen democratic practices.
