Five women were declared the best ‘Adommya Nari’ (Indomitable Women) in Rajshahi Division as part of a newly launched award programme recognizing women who have overcome social adversity and discrimination to establish themselves through courage and professional excellence.

The ‘Indomitable Women’ award initiative was introduced for the first time this year in the division to acknowledge women’s progress and capabilities. Officials concerned said the programme is expected to further accelerate women’s development and create positive role models in society.

A reception ceremony was held on Wednesday at the auditorium of the District Shilpakala Academy, where 40 women were honored across five categories: economics; education and employment; successful mother; prevention of repression; and social development.

From the 40 participants at the divisional level, 10 were shortlisted for the final round. Five of them were ultimately named the best “Indomitable Women” of the division.

The award recipients are Riju Tamanna, Sumaiya Islam, Mosammat Lata Khatun, Rasheda Begum, and Rajia Khatun.

Divisional Commissioner of Rajshahi, Dr ANM Bazlur Rashid, addressed the ceremony as the chief guest. He said women are now not only the backbone of families but also a driving force behind state and social development.

“Recognizing those who move forward despite adversity means advancing society as a whole. This recognition of indomitable women will serve as inspiration for future generations,” he said.

He also suggested that the life stories and challenges of the 40 participating women be documented and promoted through publications and media campaigns.

Dr Bazlur Rashid added that the administration would continue its full support to ensure women’s education, economic empowerment, and social security.

Riju Tamanna, nominated in the education and employment achievement category, said women are capable of overcoming any challenge if given opportunities.

Sumaiya Islam, a finalist in the social development category, said she believes women can rise again even from the brink of destruction and reaffirmed her commitment to contributing to societal development.

The meeting was chaired by Additional Divisional Commissioner (General) Mohammad Habibur Rahman. The Additional Director of the Department of Women Affairs delivered the welcome address.

Among the special guests were Deputy Inspector General of Police of Rajshahi Range Mohammad Shahjahan, District Commissioner Afia Akhtar, and Deputy Police Commissioner Md Riaz ul Islam.

Speakers at the event said the recognition of indomitable women is not only an acknowledgment of individual achievements but also a significant step toward strengthening women’s empowerment, dignity, and leadership in society.
