The Department of Fisheries conducted a four-phase special combing operation in Dacope upazila of Khulna from January 1 to February 23, 2026, to protect jatka and ensure the natural growth and breeding of fish and shrimp.
The drive was jointly organized by the Office of the Senior Upazila Fisheries Officer, Dacope, and the Upazila Administration. Strict action was taken against illegal nets in rivers and canals, including the Pashur River, Shibsa River, Bhadra River, Dhaki River, Chunkoori River and Jhapjhapia River.
The four phases were held on January 1–7, January 16–23, January 31–February 6 and February 16–23. A total of 11 mobile courts and 30 special operations were conducted.
During the drive, around 6.09 lakh metres of current nets, 58 behundi nets and about 143 other illegal nets were seized and destroyed. About 70 kilograms of illegally caught Bagda and Parshe shrimp fry were also recovered and released into rivers.
Officials said the crackdown would continue under a zero-tolerance policy to protect fish resources and ensure sustainable livelihoods.
