Seventeen personnel have returned to India from Rampal Power Plant on “security grounds”. Confirming the matter, Deputy General Manager of Bangladesh-India Friendship Power Company Ltd (BIFPCL) Anwarul Azim has said that the employees left with prior approval and continue to supervise overall operations remotely.

In a press statement, he also said that between December 2025 and January 2026, 17 expatriates were relocated in line with the expatriate ratio prescribed by Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA).

Subsequently, 12 NTPC executives were deployed at the plant solely in advisory capacities, without any operational responsibilities.

He added that all control room functions and operational activities at the plant are being handled entirely by BIFPCL’s local cadre and remain unaffected.

In view of the existing personal security concerns in Bangladesh, the NTPC advisory officials informed NTPC management and returned to India after obtaining all necessary approvals. BIFPCL rejected claims that any official left the plant without notifying the authorities, stating that all relevant stakeholders were duly informed before their departure.

According to the statement, the officials remain on duty and continue to provide advisory support through virtual platforms, including WhatsApp, Microsoft Teams, and videoconferencing. They are available around the clock and are prepared to travel to the plant immediately if any operational emergency arises.

BIFPCL further emphasized that both units of the Rampal Power Plant are operating at near full capacity in line with national grid demand, and that overall plant performance remains stable. Any alternative portrayal of the situation, the company said, is factually incorrect, misleading, and likely to create unnecessary public concern.
