Joint forces arrested a youth along with a foreign-made pistol, ammunition and a magazine during a raid in the Maona Bazar area of Sreepur upazila in Gazipur on Friday night.

The arrestee was identified as Akash, 28. He was detained around 10:30pm in the Peer Ali College area of Maona Bazar, said Lieutenant Colonel Nafis, commander of the Porabari RAB camp, confirming the incident on Saturday afternoon.

According to RAB sources, the raid was conducted following secret information that a group of miscreants was preparing to carry out a robbery in the Maona Bazar area. Acting on the tip-off, members of the joint forces rushed to the spot and arrested Akash, recovering a foreign-made pistol, one round of ammunition and a magazine from his possession.

Lieutenant Colonel Nafis said Akash was primarily involved in renting out weapons. He allegedly collected firearms from different locations after crossing the border and supplied them for use in various criminal activities. To conceal his illegal operations, he reportedly ran a scrap metal business as a cover.

RAB sources further said Akash has several previous cases filed against him, including charges related to illegal arms and murder. He is currently out on bail in those cases.
