Bangladesh Bank Governor Dr Ahsan H Mansur said that the central bank will step up its supervision over banks in three sectors, including women entrepreneurs.
A procedure is being prepared to further increase the credit flow to SMEs, women entrepreneurs and the agriculture sectors aimed at boosting the amount of loans in the three sectors.
The BB governor said this at a meeting organised by Bangladesh Bank Barisal Branch at a hotel on Thursday afternoon.
Bangladesh Bank Deputy Governor Dr. Habibur Rahman, Executive Director of Bangladesh Bank Barisal Branch Imtiaz Ahmed Masum, Deputy Director of Monetary Policy Department of Bangladesh Bank Head Office Mahmud Salauddin Naser and other senior officials were present at the programme.
The BB Governor said they have Tk35,000 crore for the SME sector, which will be disbursed at very low interest. Despite providing various facilities, they are not able to give this loan. He said loans must be increased for the SME, entrepreneurial and agricultural sectors.
He also said the cost of printing currency in the country is Tk20,000 every year. So, cashless transactions are being encouraged to reduce waste, he added.
