Paddy seeds distributed among Gopalganj farmers

Paddy seeds of the BRRI-developed variety BRRI dhan-108 have been distributed free of cost among the farmers of Gopalganj.

Under the Partner Project, the Gopalganj regional office of the Bangladesh Rice Research Institute (BRRI) distributed the seeds on Thursday afternoon on the office premises.

The chief guest, Dr Amina Khatun, head and chief scientific officer of BRRI, Gopalganj regional office, formally inaugurated the seed distribution programme by handing over paddy seeds to farmers.

Presided over by Dr Mohammad Shahidullah, principal scientific officer of BRRI, Gopalganj regional office, and conducted by scientific assistant Abdullah Al Momin, the event was also addressed by Raj Kumar Roy, sub-assistant agriculture officer of Gobra Union in Gopalganj Sadar upazila, among others.

Later, 2,000 kilogrammes of paddy seeds were distributed among 500 farmers.

Dr Amina Khatun said that the BRRI dhan-108 seeds were distributed free of cost. Using these seeds, farmers will bring 400 bighas of land under cultivation of BRRI dhan-108. By cultivating this variety, they will be able to increase production and make a profit. Farmers will also be able to preserve seeds from the BRRI dhan-108 paddy grown in their fields for use in the next year’s cultivation.
