Three police officers were injured after assailants hurled cocktails at Kotalipara police station and the Upazila Parishad office in Gopalganj on Monday night.

One cocktail was thrown at the police station around 10:30pm, while two others were thrown at the Upazila Parishad around 9pm, police said.

The attacks took place hours after the International Crimes Tribunal sentenced former prime minister Sheikh Hasina to death for crimes against humanity.

Kotalipara police station Officer-in-Charge Khandaker Hafizur Rahman said unidentified miscreants targeted the Upazila Parishad first and then carried out the attack on the police station.

Constables Irin Nahar, 31, Arif Hossain, 33, and Nazrul Islam, 52, sustained splinter injuries in the blast. They were given primary treatment at Kotalipara Upazila Health Complex.

Kotalipara Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr Kumar Mridul Das said the injured officers were out of danger.

“The police members told me they were injured in a cocktail explosion while on duty at the station. They suffered splinter wounds but were released after receiving first aid,” he said.
