Candidates for the Central Student Council and Hall Council elections at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (Sust) must go through dope test, submit a drug test certificate; hence, no nomination paper will be accepted without it.
Any candidate whose drug test result is positive will be deemed ineligible to contest.
This information was announced on Monday in the election code of conduct for the Sucsu and Hall Council elections.
According to the section on the collection, submission, and withdrawal of nomination papers: “A candidate must voluntarily provide a sample for a drug test at the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (BMB) of Sust and submit the received receipt along with the nomination paper. The Election Commission Office will collect the drug test reports of all candidates."
It added: "If the drug test result is positive, the candidate’s nomination shall be considered canceled. If necessary, the final opinion of the Review Committee formed by the Election Commission may be sought regarding the drug test report. No nomination paper will be accepted without the drug test receipt. Any false or incomplete information will render the nomination paper void.”
The section further states: “No processions are allowed during the collection and submission of nomination papers. A candidate, proposer, and supporter, along with a maximum of five individuals, may attend for the collection and submission of nomination papers. During the submission of nomination papers and withdrawal of candidacy before the chief election commissioner, no candidate, individual, group, or organization shall create any obstruction or hindrance. Candidates must personally be present to submit nomination papers or withdraw candidacy.”
Notably, the Sucsu election is scheduled to be held on December 17.
According to the election timetable, the draft voter list will be published by 3:30pm on November 20.
Objections to the draft voter list will be accepted on November 22, and the final voter list will be published on November 23.
Nomination papers will be distributed on November 24-25 from 10am to 3:30pm, and submission will take place on November 25-26 during the same hours.
Verification will be completed on November 27. The preliminary list of candidates will be published on November 28, and the deadline for withdrawal of candidacy is 3:30pm on November 30.
Appeals regarding candidacy will be accepted and resolved by 4pm on December 1.
The final list of candidates will be published on December 2.
Voting will be conducted continuously from 9am to 4pm on December 17, with results announced on the same day after counting.
