A cocktail was hurled, setting fire to the nameplate of the Grameen Industrial Park in Kharajora, Kaliakair upazila of Gazipur.
In a separate incident, miscreants torched an excavator in Media Ashulia of the same upazila.
The arson attack on the nameplate of the Grameen Industrial Park occurred around 4:45am on Monday.
Police were deployed in the area following the incident. The park is located in Kharajora along the Dhaka–Tangail highway.
Sirajul Islam, a security guard at the Grameen Industrial Park, said miscreants hurled an improvised explosive device at around 5am, taking advantage of the absence of people at the gate.
Hearing a loud explosion, security personnel rushed outside, saw the fire, and managed to extinguish it with their own resources.
Merajul Islam, assistant superintendent of police (ASP) of the Kaliakair circle, said the nameplate of the Grameen Industrial Park had been set on fire. He added that further authentic information was being gathered to initiate legal action.
Ifthekhar Raihan, in-charge of the Kaliakair Fire Station, said they had not been informed about the incident, though they were looking into it.
Inspector Sathi Akter of Kaliakair police station said miscreants set fire to an excavator in Media Ashulai, burning most parts of the machine. Inspector Khairul Islam visited the scene.
Abdul Mannan, officer-in-charge (OC) of Kaliakair police station, said police visited both scenes upon receiving information.
Efforts are underway to identify the perpetrators.
