Two people were killed on spot when a battery-operated auto-rickshaw was struck by a truck on the Brahmanbaria-Nasirnagar regional road.
The accident occurred at around 6am on Friday.
Upon receiving the news, police from Sarail police station, with the assistance of locals, recovered the bodies of the victims.
The deceased have been identified as Muslim Mia, 55, a raw material trader and son of Abdul Alim from Maind village in Majlishpur Union of Brahmanbaria Sadar, and Yusuf Mia, 50, an auto-rickshaw driver and son of the late Kasem Ali from the same area.
According to police and local witnesses, Muslim Mia and Yusuf Mia were traveling to Sarail market with vegetables in a battery-operated auto-rickshaw, as they did every morning.
Near Bodda Para in Sarail, a fish-laden truck coming from the opposite direction collided head-on with the auto-rickshaw, killing both on the spot.
The vehicle was completely mangled in the collision.
Locals immediately rushed to the scene and detained the truck along with its driver, before assisting the police in recovering the bodies and sending them to the station.
Officer-in-Charge of Sarail police station, Morshedul Alam Chowdhury, stated that the vehicles involved have been seized and legal action is being taken in connection with the incident.
