Two arrested over dismembered body found in Tongi

Police and the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) have arrested two men in connection with the recovery of a dismembered body from travel bags in Tongi, Gazipur.

The arrestees were identified as Bappi of Gacha area of Tongi West police station and Sadeq. Based on Bappi's confession, RAB arrested Sadeq from Hathazari, Chittagong, said Gazipur Metropolitan Police (GMP) Additional Commissioner Mohammad Zahidul Hasan,

The body parts, wrapped in black polythene, were found inside two travel bags by the roadside near Station Road in Tongi, Gazipur, around 10am on Friday. The bags were spotted by locals in front of Nanna Biryani House, who alerted the police after detecting a foul odour.

Officers from Tongi East police station recovered the remains, later identified through fingerprint analysis with assistance from the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) as belonging to transport worker Oli Mia, 35, son of Suruj Mia from Karimpur village in Narsingdi sadar upazila. He had been living with his wife Shahana Akter, two sons, and a daughter in Tongi, and was employed as a helper for Azmeri Paribahan. The body was found in eight pieces, with the head missing.

During a search of Sadeq’s residence, police recovered Oli Mia’s severed head from the roof above a false ceiling.
