One of the main suspects, Shadhin, has confessed to involvement in the public killing of journalist Asaduzzaman Tuhin, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Gazipur has confirmed.
Seven suspects linked to an organized snatching gang have been arrested in connection with the case.
The information was confirmed by Company Commander and Superintendent of Police (SP) KMA Mamun Khan Chishti at a press conference held at RAB-1’s office in Porabari, Gazipur, on Saturday at 11:15am.
Shadhin, 28, was arrested on Friday, around 8:45pm from Shivbari Mor, Gazipur Metropolitan City, based on secret intelligence.
He is the son of the late Nur Mohammad from Sonahara village, Faridpur Upazila, Pabna district. Other arrested suspects include Ketu Mizan and his wife Golapi, Faisal Hasan, Al-Amin, Shadhin, Shah Jalal, and Suman.
At the press briefing, SP KMA Mamun Khan Chishti explained that the female member of the snatching gang annoyed a passerby named Badshah by harassing a woman.
When Badshah intervened, the gang members chased him with knives. Journalist Tuhin was filming the incident.
Upon noticing the video recording, the gang attacked Tuhin. The CCTV footage and preliminary confessions from the suspects indicate this was the motive behind the killing.
Further investigation will clarify more details.
Earlier, law enforcement arrested six others along with Shadhin in connection with the murder.
Separate operations took place late Friday night and early Saturday morning in Turag area of the capital, Gofargaon of Mymensingh, and various locations in Gazipur Metropolitan City to detain the suspects.
