Bangladeshi killed in BSF firing along Thakurgaon border

BGB patrols have been intensified in the border area and the situation is under observation

A Bangladeshi man was shot dead, allegedly by the members of the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) along Minapur border in Haripur upazila of Thakurgaon district early Saturday.

The deceased was identified as Azgarh Ali, son of Kanu Ali of Jibonpur village of the upazila.

According to local sources, Azgarh Ali crossed the border near Main Pillar 353 under the jurisdiction of Minapur BOP and went approximately 100 yards inside Indian territory when BSF members fired at him. He died on the spot after being shot. Later, locals saw his body lying near the barbed wire fence.

The matter was confirmed by Haripur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Zakaria Mondol. He stated that police and BGB members are investigating the scene.

In this regard, Lt Colonel Tanzir Ahmed, Commander of Thakurgaon 50 BGB Battalion, said that he had heard about the incident, but that it falls under the border area of Dinajpur’s 42 BGB.

Following the incident, BGB patrols have been intensified in the border area and the situation is under observation.
