'The future depends on whether the upcoming election is free and fair'

Update : 05 Jul 2025, 11:58 AM

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman on Saturday said that the party does not want a sham or meaningless election.

Shafiqur made the comment during a roadside gathering at the Paduar Bazar Bishwaroad area in Comilla, while en route to attend a civil society meeting in Feni.

He said: “Dark clouds loom over the political sky of Bangladesh. But no matter how dense the clouds are, they cannot block the sun. The sun of liberation will surely rise in Bangladesh. It will rise on the basis of justice, morality, and the laws of the Qur'an. Everyone must be prepared for this struggle.”

He further said: “We don’t differentiate between new or old—going forward, we must build strong resistance against all forms of fascism. The young men who shed their blood for a new Bangladesh have entrusted us with that legacy. We will not betray their sacred sacrifice. We want to honor their blood. We must ensure that such sacrifices are never repeated.

“The future depends on whether the upcoming election is free and fair. Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami does not want any kind of sham election. Everyone must be prepared for the struggle ahead. With the Qur'an in our hearts, we will win this battle.”
