Heavy rainfall and water upstream in India caused the Muhuri River to breach an embankment in the Uttar Baroiya area of Fulgazi in Feni on Thursday night, resulting in the flooding of nearby localities.
Locals said floodwaters submerged several homes, halting cooking activities and forcing many residents to seek shelter elsewhere.
As a result, several low-lying areas, including Dakshin Baroiya, Bijoypur, Basantapur, Fatehpur, and Bashikhpur, have been inundated.
Floodwaters entered the Fulgazi market as well, damaging goods in several shops.
Similarly, in Parshuram upazila, river water entered residential areas after breaching the embankment.
Akter Hossain Mazumder, executive engineer of the Bangladesh Water Development Board's (BWDB) Feni office, said that although the water level of the Muhuri River is still flowing below the danger mark, several parts of the embankment remain vulnerable.
The situation worsened following a breach at a specific point in Uttar Baroiya.
Locals have urged the administration to take immediate action.
