5 dead as bush crashes into truck in Dinajpur

At least 15 others were injured and were later admitted to the local hospital

A passenger bus operated by Nabil Paribahan collided with the rear of a stationary truck in Ghioraghat, Dinajpur, resulting in the deaths of five passengers.

At least 15 others were injured in the incident.

The tragic accident took place at 4:20am on Saturday, in the Nurjahanpur area of the Dinajpur-Gobindaganj highway under Ghioraghat upazila. The identities and addresses of the deceased and injured were not immediately available.

Confirming the matter, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Ghioraghat Police Station Md Nazmul Haque said several mango-laden trucks were parked on the Dinajpur-Gobindaganj highway in Nurjahanpur.

At that time, a Dhaka-bound Nabil Paribahan bus coming from Panchagarh lost control and slammed into the back of one of the trucks. The bus was severely mangled in the collision, killing five passengers on the spot. At least 15 others were injured and were later admitted to the local hospital.

He further stated that upon receiving news of the casualties, police, army personnel, and fire service teams promptly arrived at the scene and began rescue operations. Efforts are underway to collect the names and addresses of the deceased and injured.

A case will be filed in connection with the incident, he added.
