Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman has said that the nation does not want just any kind of election, and believes that one aligned with the roadmap will be possible only if justice, reform, the July Declaration, and a level playing field for voting are ensured.
Shafiqur made the comment on Saturday in response to a question after offering Eid prayers at 8:30am at the Eidgah in his childhood village of Tulapur Pachgaon, located in Bhatera union of Kulaura upazila, Moulvibazar—a place filled with memories from his early years.
In a free and open environment, Shafiqur performed Eid prayers and exchanged greetings with people from all walks of life in the village.
He further said that people have not had the opportunity to vote in three consecutive elections.
This time, opportunities must be created for the youth and new voters to participate in the electoral process.
"If the chief adviser seeks our cooperation, we will extend it. However, resolving the national crisis is of utmost importance," he added.
Prior to the Eid prayers, the Jamaat ameer addressed the congregation.
Drawing from the teachings of the Quran and Hadith, he highlighted the spirit of sacrifice exemplified by Prophet Ibrahim (AS) and called upon the people of the country to come forward in unity to build a prosperous and ideal new Bangladesh.
